Tucked away in the coastal village of Beer, Starre Manor is more than a place to stay. It’s a story brought back to life.
With over 500 years of history woven into its walls, the restoration was never a matter of renovation. It was about preserving the manor’s soul, respecting its heritage, and reimagining it for modern living.
The result is a place where original character meets quiet luxury. Made for gathering, celebrating, and slowing down.
A Home with History
Long before it became a luxury coastal retreat, Starre Manor was part of the fabric of village life.
From its original timber frame to its centuries-old proportions, the house carried the unmistakable presence of a Tudor building. Rich in detail, but in need of careful restoration.
Rather than stripping it back or modernising beyond recognition. The aim was clear: to protect what made it special.
The Restoration Approach

Every decision made throughout the project followed a simple idea: restore, not replace.
Original beams revealed and preserved, aged wood panelling retained, and the inglenook fireplaces. A defining feature of the house brought back to life. Where materials needed attention, the approach was always to work with the building’s own character. Rather than against it.
That includes the walls themselves. Starre House is built from distinctive local Beer stone. A material prized since the Roman era, quarried from the caves outside the village. The same stone found in Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, and 24 of Britain’s cathedrals — so it felt only right to honour it here too.
This wasn’t about creating a showpiece. It was about creating something authentic.
Craftsmanship at the Core
The restoration relied on traditional skills — many of which are becoming increasingly rare.
From timber repairs to sympathetic finishes, every decision respected the methods that would have originally shaped the house.
The result is a home that doesn’t feel renovated. It feels settled, grounded, and true to itself.
Designed for Modern Living

While the structure honours the past, the homes living are entirely modern.
Starre Manor has been thoughtfully designed for group stays. With a generous kitchen made for long, shared meals. A large dining space that brings everyone together. Comfortable living areas, log-burning stoves, and bedrooms that combine character with boutique comfort.
Every detail considered to make hosting feel effortless.
A Place to Gather

What makes Starre Manor special isn’t only how it looks, it’s how it feels when people are in it.
Whether you’re marking a family celebration, escaping for a week with friends, the house has a way of drawing people together. Spaces flow, encouraging connection while still offering enough room to retreat.
Where Heritage Meets Modern Living

This balance is at the heart of everything.
Not over polished. Not over rustic. A considered blend of heritage and comfort.
It’s this that makes Starre Manor feel different. Not somewhere to stay, but somewhere to belong.
