Welcome to Starre Manor
Welcome to Starre Manor, a beautifully restored Tudor manor house sitting at the heart of Beer, one of South Devon’s most loved coastal villages. Built in 1502 from locally quarried Beer stone — the same limestone used in Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London and 24 British cathedrals — it has been carefully brought into the present by Obstgarten Homes, with no compromise on character and no shortage of comfort.
Sleeping up to 12 guests across six bedrooms (with option for a sofa bed that sleeps an extra two people), Starre Manor combines original beamed ceilings, Tudor fireplaces and flagstone floors with a fully equipped kitchen, beautifully dressed bedrooms and bathrooms that feel genuinely luxurious. It is a house on a scale that suits large groups, with a warmth that makes everyone feel immediately at home.
Whether you are planning a family reunion, a milestone celebration, a multi-generational gathering or simply a week on the Jurassic Coast with the people who matter most — Starre Manor offers a setting that rises to the occasion.

Historic Holiday Rental on the East Devon Coast
Five Centuries of History. One Extraordinary House.
There are very few holiday properties in England that can offer what Starre Manor does. The building has stood in Beer since Henry VIII was on the throne. The stone in its walls was quarried from the hillside just above the village – the same stone that shaped some of Britain’s most enduring landmarks. That history isn’t a backdrop. It’s in the fabric of every room.
Obstgarten Homes has restored the manor with the same care taken with the original build. Original features have been preserved where they matter most – the fireplaces, the beams, the thick limestone walls that keep the house cool in summer and hold the warmth in winter. Modern comforts have been added where they improve the experience without interrupting it.
The result is a spectacular, large holiday home on the East Devon coast that feels both genuinely historic and genuinely liveable. It is a place where you can comfortably leave the car behind, as the beautiful pebble beach, historic fishing boats, independent restaurants, and welcoming village pubs are all just a short, lovely stroll from your front door.
Flexible Large Accommodation for Special Celebrations
We understand that coordinating group holidays requires flexibility. While the estate is best experienced as a single, magnificent large accommodation in Beer sleeping up to 12 guests across its six beautifully appointed bedrooms, its unique historic layout can adapt perfectly to your party’s dynamic.
Starre Manor can be rented as a whole property for 12 (+2) people, or split into two completely private, self-contained units with their own facilities:
Starre House (Sleeps 10): The grand heart of the manor, featuring five elegant bedrooms, the main Tudor dining room, the professional kitchen, and expansive social living spaces.

Starre Barn (Sleeps 2): A romantic, beautifully converted timber-beamed retreat offering complete privacy, a cosy open-plan living area, and its own private garden terrace.

Perfect For
Family Gatherings
Multiple generations, one house, one long table. Starre Manor was built for exactly this.
Celebrations
A Tudor manor house, a candlelit dining room and a private chef if you want one. Few settings do milestone birthdays quite like this.
Friends Escapae
The kind of house that gives a group of friends the run of the place — with enough space that no one gets under each other’s feet.
Multi-Generational Stays
With six bedrooms across the manor and Starre Barn available for extra privacy, the estate suits groups spanning grandparents to grandchildren with ease.
Jurassic Coast Adventures
Direct access to the South West Coast Path, fossil beaches and some of the finest coastal walking in England — all from the village doorstep.
Christmas & New Years
Stone fireplaces, beamed ceilings and a dining room made for a Christmas table. Availability at this time of year goes early.
The Starre Collection
ADJOINING STARRE BARN

Starre Manor is the collective name for the full Starre estate — comprising Starre House and Starre Barn together as one booking. When you stay at Starre Manor, both properties are yours for the duration.
Starre Barn sits within the same estate as the main house and has been finished to exactly the same standard. With its own private entrance, independent living space and luxury bathroom, it works naturally as a self-contained wing — ideal for grandparents who want to be part of the gathering but value their own front door, or for a couple who want a quieter corner of the estate at the end of the evening. The barn adds both space and flexibility to a large group stay without anyone feeling tucked away.
Make Your Stay
PRIVATE DINING AT STARRE MANOR

Some occasions deserve more than a self-catered meal, however good. For those moments, Obstgarten Homes can arrange private dining at the manor with a professional chef — from a relaxed celebratory feast served family-style to a more considered multi-course dinner in the Tudor dining room.
The house has an established relationship with chefs who understand what cooking for a large gathering at this scale requires. Whether it’s a landmark birthday, a family reunion dinner or a Christmas table, private dining at Starre Manor turns a special stay into something guests are still talking about long after they leave.
Beer & the Jurassic Coast
ADVENTURE ON THE DOORSTEP

Beer is the kind of place that people come back to year after year, quietly reluctant to tell too many others about it. A genuine working village tucked into a sheltered combe between chalk cliffs, it has a fishing beach, local pubs, good restaurants and an unhurried rhythm that most coastal resorts can only pretend to. Starre Manor sits right at the centre of it.
The Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site begins almost at the end of the lane. From Beer, guests can walk east along the cliffs towards Seaton and Lyme Regis, or west towards Sidmouth — some of the finest stretches of the South West Coast Path, with views that stop you mid-stride.
